Role Overview
Location: Springs, Gauteng (ZA)
Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Department: Springs Engineering
Reports to: Maintenance Superintendent
You will be entrusted with maintaining and servicing critical plant equipment to achieve at least 98% uptime, meet line-rate targets, and ensure our products satisfy the highest quality expectations. A key measure of success will be minimizing waste through precise, proactive maintenance and timely breakdown interventions.
Key Responsibilities
• Preventative & Reactive Maintenance
• Perform daily inspections and preventative checks on pumps, conveyors, packaging machines, pneumatics, hydraulics, augers, and shakers. Mechanical Fitter Jobs.
• Troubleshoot faults, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Installation & Overhaul
• Install new process machinery or retrofit existing equipment.
• Strip, examine, and rebuild components to OEM standards, replacing worn or damaged parts.
• Commission and test machinery post-installation to guarantee seamless production integration.
• Workshop Support & Machining
• Operate lathes and milling machines to fabricate shafts or custom parts, accurately interpreting engineering drawings.
• Maintain workshop tools and machinery to maximize uptime and safety. Mechanical Fitter Jobs.
• Safety & Compliance
• Adhere strictly to McCain’s Food Safety Management (AIB, HACCP) and local OHS Act requirements.
• Champion 5S housekeeping standards and proactively identify potential hazards.
• Cost & Inventory Control
• Record spare-parts usage and breakdown data in SAP.
• Collaborate with the Mechanical Superintendent to optimize critical-spare inventories.
• Propose and implement resource-efficiency improvements (water, air, steam, electricity) through the MDI process.
Who We’re Looking For– Requirements
• Education & Certification: Grade 12 or N3; valid Fitter and Turner Trade Test Certificate.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years in an FMCG or food-processing environment, with proven competence in overhauling pumps, packaging lines, conveyors, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
• Technical Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, PLC fundamentals (advantageous), ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, and proven machining experience.
• Personal Attributes: Excellent problem-solver, keen attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset. You thrive under pressure and have a proactive “fix-it” attitude.
