Position Overview

As a Cashier at Cashbuild Akasia, you will be the face of our brand at the Point of Sale (POS). Your primary goal is to ensure every transaction is accurate, efficient, and friendly. By mastering our POS systems and adhering to Cashbuild’s “Ready for Business” standards, you’ll help us maintain trust and satisfaction among our customers.

What You’ll Do

• Accurate POS Operations:
• Process all customer purchases, returns, and exchanges with precision.
• Capture correct payment types (cash, card, EFT) and ensure no stock leaves without payment.
• Balance floats and petty cash daily—no overages or shortages.

• Cash Handling & Security:
• Maintain sufficient change and secure all takings in the drop safe/vault.
• Comply with Cashbuild’s cash-handling protocols for pickups and cash-ups.
• Uphold strict password control at the till point and report any discrepancies immediately.
• Customer Service Excellence:
• Greet every customer warmly, direct them to the right department, and handle queries efficiently.

• Demonstrate in-depth product knowledge on timber, cement, bricks, and hardware supplies.
• Adhere to company dress code and personal grooming standards, reinforcing Cashbuild’s professional image.
• Administrative Duties:
• Compile, sign, and file all cashier-related documentation accurately.
• Process inter-branch transactions, deliveries, and quotations with attention to detail.
• Share relevant information with the Store Manager and other stakeholders as required.

• Health & Safety Compliance:
• Follow Occupational Health and Safety (OHSA) guidelines to ensure a safe environment for team members and customers.
• Report any hazards or security concerns promptly to the Store Manager.

Your Profile: Requirements

• Education & Experience:
• Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent; at least one year of cashier or retail-related experience preferred.
• Skills & Abilities:
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans (or Setswana), matching the linguistic needs of the Akasia community.
• Strong numerical skills to perform basic calculations quickly and accurately.
• Excellent administration skills and proficiency with POS technology.

• Personal Traits:
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple tasks during busy peak periods.
• A proactive “can-do” attitude, ready to tackle problems by identifying root causes and escalating when necessary.
• Adaptability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as per operational demands.
