Your Role: General Work Assistant

As a General Work Assistant at Cashbuild Akasia, you will be the frontline ambassador for our brand, ensuring every visitor enjoys a seamless, safe, and well-organised shopping experience. Your responsibilities will include:

Exceptional Customer Service
• Warm Welcome: Greet customers, understand their needs, and guide them to the right products—whether it’s cement, paint, or timber.
• Product Expertise: Advise on product specifications, usage tips, and best-value options.

• Problem Resolution: Listen actively to concerns, resolve complaints quickly, or escalate to management when needed.
Merchandising & Store Presentation
• Stock Display: Follow the store layout plan and planograms to arrange bulk stock safely and attractively.
• Price Labelling: Ensure all shelves display accurate, up-to-date price tags.

• Housekeeping: Keep aisles clear, tidy, and hazard-free so customers and colleagues can move around safely.
Safety & Compliance
• OHSA Standards: Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations—wear safety gear, report hazards, and maintain a safe working environment.
• Incident Reporting: Flag damaged or missing stock and any store discrepancies to the Store Manager immediately.

Operational Excellence
• Shift Flexibility: General Work Assistant rotating shifts, weekends, and public holidays to keep our doors open when our community needs us most.
• Accuracy & Efficiency: Complete checklists for canteen, toilet, and shower facilities; perform basic calculations for stock counts and pricing.
• Target Achievement: Meet daily performance goals by delivering high-quality work and following through on commitments.

Teamwork & Communication
• Collaborative Spirit: Demonstrate courtesy and willingness to assist colleagues, suppliers, and customers.
• Effective Communication: Share relevant information clearly and promptly with appropriate stakeholders.
• Conflict Management: Handle pressure and resolve minor conflicts with professionalism and empathy.

What We’re Looking For

To succeed as a General Assistant at our Akasia (Karenpark) branch, you should have:
• Education: Minimum Grade 10/NQF Level 3 plus one year of related work experience, or Grade 12 without experience.

• Language Skills: Proficiency in English and at least one local language spoken in Pretoria North.
• Legal Requirements: Valid South African ID or work permit.
• Technical Aptitude: Ability to perform basic calculations and learn new systems.
• Work Ethic: Resilience under pressure, a positive attitude, and a genuine desire to help customers.
