The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) is looking to hire an administrative assistant. CoGTA plays a pivotal role in strengthening municipalities and promoting responsive, accountable, and effective local governance throughout South Africa. The role of Administrative Assistant: Fire Services is vital to ensuring the smooth operation of our Fire Services Unit. Fire services are a critical component of public safety, and this position ensures that the systems behind the scenes function flawlessly. Your work will directly support the life-saving activities of the unit and contribute to better preparedness and emergency response across communities. Administrative Assistant.


Key Responsibilities


In this role, you will become the operational anchor of the Fire Services Unit. Your core duties will include:
• Maintaining an organised and efficient filing system for easy access to vital records
• Ensuring accurate document tracking through appropriate registers and digital systems
• Receiving, distributing, and recording

incoming and outgoing documents
• Supporting meetings and workshops by compiling agendas, minutes, and reports
• Managing the supervisor’s diary, scheduling appointments, and documenting events
• Coordinating travel, venue bookings, and logistics for meetings, conferences, and workshops. Administrative Assistant.
• Purchasing and monitoring stationery and office supplies for the unit


• Assisting with inventory control of departmental assets and equipment
• Making photocopies, scanning, sending faxes, and distributing emails as needed
• Providing general administrative support to ensure seamless daily operations
You’ll serve as the central communication hub for the unit, playing a critical role in promoting accountability, organisation, and effective service delivery.


Minimum Requirements


To be eligible for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
• A Senior Certificate (Matric) or a three-year National Diploma (NQF Level 4/6 equivalent), recognised by SAQA
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
• Strong administrative and organisational skills
• Ability to work independently and within a team
• Clear, effective communication skills – both written and verbal
• Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
