Position Overview

• Job Title: Laboratory Assistant Work (er)– NRL Prelab
• Location: Ampath National Reference Laboratory, Centurion, South Africa
• Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time (45 hours/week; Monday to Friday)
• Start Date: From 4 February 2025

As a Laboratory Assistant Work (er) at our Centurion facility, you will play a crucial role in the pre-analytical phase of specimen handling. Your accuracy and attention to detail ensure timely delivery of diagnostic results that clinicians and patients rely on every day.

Key Responsibilities

• Specimen Reception & Processing
• Welcome patients and transport clerks with a professional, caring attitude.
• Verify patient details and specimen integrity, using the Meditech system for data entry.
• Label, aliquot, and route samples to the appropriate analyzers with precision. Laboratory Assistant Work (er).

• Automation & Equipment Maintenance
• Operate and monitor automated pre-analytical instruments.
• Perform routine checks, calibrations, and preventive maintenance to keep equipment in optimal condition.
• Troubleshoot minor errors and liaise with technical support for complex issues.

• Quality Assurance & Compliance
• Adhere strictly to Ampath’s ISO 15189 accreditation standards and internal safety protocols.
• Complete daily quality control checks, record findings, and escalate deviations promptly.
• Participate in regular audits and team reviews to continuously improve processes.

• Client Relations & Communication
• Maintain clear, courteous communication with ordering clinicians, nurses, and external couriers.
• Provide timely updates on sample status and any unexpected delays. Laboratory Assistant Work (er).

What We’re Looking For

• Education & Registration: Laboratory Assistant Work ( er)
• Grade 12 certificate (minimum).
• HPCSA registration in the relevant laboratory register and practice field.

• Experience & Skills:
• Hands-on experience with the Meditech laboratory information system or similar LIS.
• Proven ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks with accuracy.
• Solid understanding of pre-analytical workflow, specimen types, and laboratory safety.
• Strong communication skills and a service-oriented mindset.

• Legal Requirements:
• South African ID or valid South African work permit.
